Centenary Celebrations – part 2

On July 22nd Rhiwbina Bowls Club enjoyed a visit from WBA President, Paul Watkins, and his invitation team to celebrate our 100th season of bowling. Taking place during the latest heatwave, this was an opportunity to see Rhiwbina at its best. Hospitality was provided by Rhiwbina Ladies’ Bowls Club, with liquid refreshment courtesy of Rhiwbina Recreation Club’s bar, all of which made for a memorable occasion. We wish to thank all our visitors for taking part, and especially WBA Asst. Secretary John Manfield for all the arrangements made to make the day a great success.

Centenary Celebrations

Rhiwbina welcomed regular visitors Welsh VIs/Paras as part of our centenary year celebrations. The visiting team, many of whom will soon represent Wales in Leamington against England and Scotland, gained an overall win by 81 shots to 66. The match was sponsored by Walbrook Public Relations.

Centenary Season 2021

Rhiwbina Bowls Club celebrates its centenary season this year and is extremely grateful for the generous sponsorship of Walbrook Public Relations. To mark the occasion, the Club has returned to its original Club colours, as displayed on new team shirts for a recent WBA match. Later this year, in July, a celebration match against a WBA President’s Team will take place.

Sport Wales/National Lottery Funding

Rhiwbina Bowls Club awarded ‘Be Active Wales’ funding

We have received a share of funding aimed at supporting grassroots sports clubs through the Covid-19 crisis and into the future. We were awarded funding by Sport Wales’ Be Active Wales Fund to help us get through the next few months as we prepare for the 2021 season.

Thanks to the Welsh Government and repurposed money from the National Lottery, the Be Active Wales Fund enables clubs to apply for grants Protect or Prepare during the pandemic and Progress into the future.

Some clubs need the funding to help them stay afloat, while other clubs are using the money to make any adaptations required to ensure their activities are safe once they are given the green light by Welsh Government for their sport to restart.  Others are ready to move forward and progress with a project which will enable more people to enjoy sport like our members do.

We are extremely grateful to the Welsh Government and National Lottery for this vital support via the Sport Wales Be Active Fund.

Rhiwbina Recreation Club Opening Hours – October

Rhiwbina Recreation Club has been at the heart of our community for over 100 years. The current Covid 19 restrictions have put significant pressures on the hospitality industry, and we have had to react to that accordingly. However, even though Cardiff is in lockdown we are still permitted to be open for family groups to enjoy a safe and relaxing drink and snack together.
To that end we are open from tonight, and over the next few weeks we hope to expand our offer to ensure you have a place to relax and unwind on the weekends. Our Opening Hours for the next two weeks will be:

Thursday: 6-10 pm
Friday: 6-10 pm
Saturday: 4-10 pm
Sunday: 12-5 pm
Bar Snacks available each day

As we progress, we will be opening the kitchen to provide a menu for you and your family. To facilitate this, we have in place two familiar faces, Mike and Cara. Please use the existing email address to book a table or we will try and be flexible if you come directly to the club.

The facility is for members to use and, therefore, we encourage family groups to use this safe and local facility as much as possible, within the rules, to have some fun and support your community club.

We look forward to seeing you soon.
