Two of our junior members, Flynn Barnes and Joe Gape, took part in a Bowls Academy Day recently at Barry Athletic Bowls Club. Congratulations to Flynn on winning the pairs competition run during the day with Jack Mounty. Both are pictured below (Flynn second from left, Joe second from right) with other participants and coaches.
The Academy Day was a one-day coaching event aimed at young bowlers 11 to 16 years of age who are seeking to improve their game and performance. The Barry Athletic Bowls Academy was organised and delivered by the Barry Athletic Bowls Club supported by Aero Bowls sponsored players: Richard Bowen of Barry Athletic Bowls Club and Aero-sponsored players Anwen Butten and Jess Sims. Anwen has won two Commonwealth Games bronze medals and two world silver medals and three bronze. Jess is the current World Ladies Pairs Champion and has been a regular in the Welsh women’s junior and senior international teams.

David and Mary are pictured below; also to be seen is the rockery containing a memorial plaque to former member Hugh Morgan, the rockery having been created this year by David and fellow member Arwel Owen.

The chosen charity of this year's men's captain, David Rundle, is Marie Curie - Care and support through terminal illness.

The first charity event of the 2016 season took place on Sunday, 05 June, when more than 40 bowlers, family members and friends undertook a charity walk in Roath Park, followed by lunch at Rhiwbina Recreation Club. The funds raised so far amount to more than £800, a fantastic start to this year's fund-raising events.

Future events are a Charity Mixed Pairs competition on July 10, a Marie Curie 'Blooming Great Tea Party' on July 17, and a Charity Rinks competition on August 08 and 22, after which a cheque will be presented to representatives of the local Marie Curie branch.
